landcomm, free covid tests, zines
Tue, May. 27th, 2025 12:47 pmI'm working on my write-up of Wiscon 47 (including a massive list of interesting links and book recommendations), but for now: here's some links to look at!

Interactive multi-fandom challenge community
lands_of_magic has been reborn at
seasons_of_fandom and will start accepting new members in June.
Here's a great Tumblr blog featuring diverse Murderbot fanart/fan creations.
VidUKon (a fanvid convention!) is happening May 30-June 1; online tickets are £20, or if you'e in Bristol and want to attend in person it's £50!

(US folks) You can still bulk-order FREE Covid tests (minimum order 300) from the gov, and here's how to do it. This would be a great option for a local mutual aid group!
I'm not 100% sure about this site because it looks weirdly commercial (like a listicle website??) but it does have some interesting mutual aid/community-building resources, including this list of 300 guides to help your community thrive. They also have some free PDF books about mutual aid and such available for download if you give your email address.

I have a draft up for how to use Calibre to organize magazines/zines, articles and TTRPG files. I'll get it finished and tidy for posting here later this week!
Locus Magazine is having a fundraiser which'll end in about a week.
A newly-added Project Gutenberg book that caught my eye: A cityless and countryless world: An outline of practical cooperative individualism.
Also, I'm continuing to add to my stash of (electronic) zines and want to share the goodies!
Here's a collection of zines about building communities of care without prisons or policing. And here's some zines from the Asian American Feminist Collective, including one during/about COVID-19 in 2020. These two zines from DAIR Institute (Distributed AI Research Institute) focus on research philosophy and possible futures.

The Internet Phonebook (physical version) is out of print BUT you can type any random 3 numbers and get a website loaded.
How to leave tech to become a farmer, an interview with Nicole Yeo about starting a farming collective.
Earth Matter NY's Open Source Curriculum has a bunch of projects available, including stuff like making a flower press or a backyard compost device.
Need more stuff to read? I've compiled all previous linkspam posts here on my website or of course you can explore the linkspam tag below.
